What is this series?
Imagine being away from your son or daughter for years as they stumble their way through college far from you. What would you want to do? You would want to love them. You would want to teach them. You would want to protect them from themselves. Imagine the only way you could communicate with them was through paper letters (snail mail). What would those letters look like?
This is what we get in this letter to the Corinthian church. Paul, a loving father of the church, who is far away, wants to help them, guide them, and teach them how to be faithful to Jesus in all things. Paul’s summary statement, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” How do we live all of our lives for the glory of God? This is Paul’s hope for the church – living lives that are truly all for Jesus!

Why this series now?
We don’t live in Corinth. But the spirit of Corinth lives all around us and too often in us. Corinth was full of comparison, sexual sin, relational confusion, church division, worldly wisdom replacing wisdom from Christ, and everything in between. What are the issues we face in 2026 as a church here in Phoenix? Comparison. Sexual and relational sin. Worldly wisdom enticing us. And so much more.
Not much has changed in 2000 years for disciples of Jesus. There is always a spirit of the age – whether its Corinth or Phoenix. There are always temptations for the church to follow the spirit of the age rather than the Spirit of Christ. This beautiful letter will guide our church through a variety of cultural issues that affect us and help us to more faithfully live lives that glorify God in all things!
