What is this series?
Starting Sunday, we are opening a new book in the New Testament, 1 Timothy. Paul, in this pastoral epistle, writes to a young protege and rookie church leader, Timothy. He gives encouragement and exhortation on the importance of the local church, and he reminds Timothy that focusing on what a church believes and how a church behaves is his most important task. In an age of confusion, deception, and a million talking heads, this book will help ground us and remind us of our calling as the church of the living God: we are the pillar and buttress of truth in a world of deceit and decay.

Why this series now?
The church is God’s plan for the world. Therefore… what the church believes and how the church behaves is important for anyone who calls themself a follower of Jesus. As a church plant, we have spent the last three years getting our feet under us regarding people and resources. I believe we are moving into a season of settling in for the long haul and discerning what God has for us as a faithful community of disciples in North Phoenix. However, we don’t get to reinvent the wheel. We must go to the Word to hear what God says to us as a church.
Here are some questions the Lord will make us face as we enter this book.
1 . The Gospel - What is the Gospel? What is a false Gospel? What does it look like to swerve from the Gospel?
2. False Teachers - How/when do you label someone a false teacher? Do you know what influences to avoid and why?
3. Church leadership - What roles do men and women play in church leadership? Why?
4. Sexual Immorality - What is a God-honoring sexual ethic? Is my belief and my behavior in line with what honors God?
5. Prayer - How vital is prayer in my life and the life of the church? Do I need to value prayer more?
6. Contentment - Am I content? How do I live a more content life?
