the 5 solas: What we believe as protestants
Series Overview: The 5 Solas | What We Believe as Protestants
What is this series?
“What kind of church is it?” If you have ever invited someone to church or talked about church, you have been asked this question. What kind of church is North Mountain? Bible church? Non-denominational church? Loving church? Yes. Yes. And hopefully, yes.
However, at our core, we are Protestants. What is a protestant? Our roots can be traced to the Protestant Reformation, which began in the 1500s. This series explores five truths that Protestants hold as central to our faith and worthy to be defended all those years ago and defended still today. Join us as we dive deep into our Protestant theological family tree.
Series Schedule
March 16 – Sola Scriptura - 2 Tim. 3:15–17
March 23 - Sola Gratia - Ephesians 2:4-9
March 30 - Sola Fide - Romans 3:21-24
April 6 - Solus Christus - John 1:1
April 13 - Soli Deo Gloria - Ephesians 1:4-6
Why this series now?
American historian David McCullough once said, “History is who we are and why we are the way we are.” Sadly for Christians, history (church history especially) is often an area that is neglected in our discipleship journey.
However, if you miss the history, you can easily miss out on “who we are and why we are the way we are.”
Why are we Protestant and not Catholic?
Why do we take the Bible so seriously?
Why is grace such a big deal?
This series will answer these questions and others like these. It will also remind us of our past, encourage us to stay the course in the present and challenge us not to let our future be steered back into battles that have already been fought and won.
